A Season of Renewal
February 2026 | Emily Lyons, Director
Hello Anothen Families,
This month, my focus is on renewal—a theme that feels especially fitting as we watch the world.
In our classrooms and outdoor spaces, students will be diving into the world of bees. We’ll explore their vital role as pollinators, observe how they work together in a community, and learn how even the smallest creatures make a big impact on our ecosystems.
Adding to our excitement, we will also begin incubating eggs here at school. Students will have the opportunity to observe the incubation process, learn about life cycles, and witness the hatching of our chicks. It’s always a joyful and memorable experience for our community.
And of course, we are looking forward to coming together for our Spring Fling Dance on March 28th! This special evening will be a time to celebrate the season with music, movement, and community. We hope you’ll join us as we shake off the winter chill and welcome spring in true Nature School style. More details below!
March is a beautiful reminder that growth often begins quietly, beneath the surface. Thank you for being part of our school community and for nurturing curiosity, resilience, and wonder in your children each day.
Practicing Gentleness
Angie Williams, Education Director
Chapel Focus: Because God is Gentle We Practice Gentleness
This week in chapel, we are learning about Gentleness as part of the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23. Gentleness is choosing kindness, patience, and self-control even when we feel frustrated or upset. It is strength under control — responding with a soft heart and loving words, just as Jesus does with us.
We are talking about how Jesus modeled gentleness in the way He cared for people, welcomed children, forgave others, and showed compassion. True gentleness reflects the heart of Christ.
As we look ahead to Easter, we will also focus on Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered Jerusalem and the crowds waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” Even though He is the King of Kings, He came humbly and gently.
Most importantly, we will celebrate the greatest truth of our faith: Jesus is alive! He has risen! The resurrection reminds us that love wins, hope is alive, and Jesus is still working in our hearts today.
Family Conversation Starters:
What does gentleness look like at school?
How did Jesus show gentleness?
Why is Easter such good news?
Family Prayer
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for showing us what true gentleness looks like. Help our hearts to be kind, our words to be soft, and our actions to reflect You. Most of all, thank You that You are alive! Because You rose again, we have hope and joy. Help our family to share Your gentleness and Your good news with others.
In Your name we pray,
Amen.
Family in Action
The Gentle Words Challenge is a simple 5–10 minute activity that helps families practice kindness together. All you need are small slips of paper and a bowl or jar. Have each family member write down one or two kind or gentle phrases—such as “I forgive you,” “Can I help?” “I’m proud of you,” or “It’s okay.” Place the slips in the bowl, then take turns drawing one and acting out a situation during the week where you could use that gentle phrase. To wrap up, spend a moment together discussing the question, “How did Jesus show gentleness?
Family Connection:
Remind everyone that gentleness is strength under control — just like Jesus showed when He entered Jerusalem humbly on Palm Sunday and when He chose love even at the cross.
Spring Fling is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! Join us on campus March 28 from 5:00–7:00 PM for a fun, relaxed evening together.
We’ll have food trucks (announcement coming soon!), a DJ with plenty of dancing, and field games for everyone to enjoy. Fishing will be open from 5:00–6:00 PM, so come early if you want to cast a line!
Parking is a little tight on campus, so carpooling really helps if you’re able.
